James 1:16-17

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Don’t be deceived. These words are spoken directly at me. It is very often that I have deceived myself, and lost track of what my attention should be focused on. In this passage it is in relation to good and perfect gifts from above, but any time I am under the grip of deception then I am falling short of God’s word. Thankfully I have someone who will remind me, often times harshly, but always honestly. I have to make the effort to put myself back on track and avoid the mental thoughts that can generate a sense of deception.
